One Dead In Mattapan Triple Shooting
BOSTON (CBS) - Police responded to a triple shooting in Mattapan late Saturday afternoon.
One of the victims, an elderly woman from Barbados, has died. The other two men's injuries are not life-threatening.
"This was an innocent woman who was struck by gunfire. This should not be tolerated," said Boston Police Commissioner William Gross. "Our neighborhoods are better than this."
Police responded to the Mattapan neighborhood at about 5 p.m. Saturday. They found an outdoor crime scene on Mattapan Street. Boston Police Department's SWAT team and K9s also assisted at the scene. On Saturday evening, police were canvassing the neighborhood, looking for evidence and witnesses.
District Attorney Rachael Rollins said she offered her condolences to the family. "One of them said 'We're sick and tired of prayers,' and they're absolutely right." Rollins said she planned to work to reduce homicides in the city.
"We have a very sad situation here in a great neighborhood," said Boston Mayor Marty Walsh.
Anyone who has information about the shooting is asked to call 1-800-494-TIPS or the Homicide Unit at 617-343-4470. Callers can remain anonymous.
