Shawn Thornton In Studio With Toucher & Rich

BOSTON (CBS) - The Bruins had to make a tough decision this offseason when they said goodbye to veteran fan favorite Shawn Thornton.

The 36-year-old forward found work just hours after free agency began and will be taking his talents to Florida to play for the Panthers on a two-year deal. Thornton has nothing but love for the city of Boston and has previously said that he'd like to return when his playing days are over.

The enforcer was kind enough to join 98.5 The Sports Hub's Toucher & Rich show for a full two hours on Tuesday morning.

In this first segment, he tells us about his upbringing, getting noticed by scouts and how he broke into and stayed in the National Hockey League.

In the second segment Adolfo showed Shawn Thornton some of his martial arts moves. Shawn critiqued Adolfo, and the two had a contest to see who could punch Jon Wallach's baseball mitt the hardest.

In this segment Shawn talks about his year-end meeting with general manager Peter Chiarelli and when he knew he wasn't going to be on the team. He also talked about playing with Roberto Luongo on the Panthers, Cuts For A Cause and who he thinks will be the next Bruins leader.

In the 8 o'clock hour, the guys had a little fun with some old Bruins audio.

Shawn Thornton is almost 37 and has been in more fights than he can remember, so Toucher & Rich played "Does Shawn Thornton Know Whose A** He Kicked?" Rich bleeped out the names and all you can hear is the sounds from the broadcast, so it's up to Shawn to figure out which fight it is based on the call.

Listen below and play along!

In the last segment, Rich introduced Shawn to Randy Moller, the Florida Panthers play-by-play man famous for incorporating pop culture phrases, song lyrics and lines from movies into his broadcast.

After that, Thornton fielded some calls from the listeners and talked about his offseason plans, which include looking for houses in Florida and training next month with Freddie Roach.
