Shaq, Verne Troyer Appear At Modell's Grand Opening On Boylston Street

BOSTON (CBS) – A few famous faces were on hand Thursday on Boylston Street as Modell's Sporting Goods opened its newest location in the former City Sports facility.

Shaquille O'Neal, who briefly spent time in a Celtics uniform, and Verne Troyer, known for playing "Mini-Me" in the Austin Powers movies, were among those who helped cut the ribbon for the new store located at 480 Boylston Street.

The 11,000-square foot store is geared for customers who are passionate about running, fitness and sports teams, Modell's officials said.

O'Neal and Troyer arrived at the store along with CEO Mitchell Modell, Boston Police Commissioner William Evans and other guests.

A ribbon cutting was held in front of the store, which is one of two new locations in the northeast that opened Thursday in former City Sports locations.

Modell's announced following the ceremony that 10 percent of total sales at the store on Friday will be donated to the Martin Richard Foundation.

Eight-year-old Richard was killed in the Boston Marathon bombings.

"Modell's is not only ecstatic about opening a store on Boylston Street, but we are also so excited to be able to support such an amazing cause at our Grand Opening," Modell said.
