2 Women Sexually Assaulted By Possible Rideshare Driver Impostors, Boston Police Say

BOSTON (CBS) -- Rideshare passengers are concerned about two women allegedly sexually assaulted after getting into a vehicle they thought they ordered.

Boston Police say the victims may have accidentally entered vehicles not affiliated with legitimate rideshare services in the city.

"It's certainly disconcerting and upsetting as well," one rider said.

Police say over the weekend there were two separate incidents of women being assaulted after getting into rideshare services in Boston.

The assaults happened early Sunday morning in the area of Center Plaza and Lansdowne Street in Boston.

In both incidents, police say the drivers asked the victims to sit in the front seat, then during the ride they were assaulted.

"I always check to see if the plate is the same as my app. I double-check the car driver and see if they are really working for the app they say they are working for," one rider said.

Right now, police are trying to determine if the drivers in question were affiliated with rideshare services the women called. Police also caution riders to always look for a confirmation text, check the plate number and driver's identity and never get into a car you didn't order.

"My daughter is an adult, but at the same time you never know," one rider told WBZ-TV. "I will bring it to her attention."

"You can never be too careful," another rider added.
