Woman Raped At Carson Beach In South Boston, State Police Say
SOUTH BOSTON (CBS) – State Police say a woman was raped near a bath house on Carson Beach in South Boston early Tuesday morning.
"Preliminary investigation suggests that a group of people — most likely members of the homeless community — were gathered near the bath house in the early morning. At approximately 4:30 a.m., the victim stated, she was raped by one of the men who were present," State Police spokesman Dave Procopio said in a statement.
A passerby saw the woman in distress around 6 a.m. and then called police. The woman was taken to Boston Medical Center. There have been no arrests. Procopio said detectives are "working on developing a description of the suspect."
Beachgoers were shocked that such an act could occur there, especially with hot weather keeping the area busy.
"All throughout the entire day, there's people waiting for, you know, rides, there's people getting a bite to eat in this little thing -- there's just people," one man told WBZ-TV. "If something really seriously happened, it had to be at a real quiet, quiet, quiet time."
No other information is available at this point in the investigation.
