Second Person Charged With Arson In 2013 Brookline House Fire
BROOKLINE (CBS) -- A developer and restaurateur is the second man indicted for a 2013 fire that destroyed a Brookline home.
Alan Kaplan, 50, owner of the Village Smokehouse restaurant, was arraigned Tuesday in Norfolk Superior Court. He pleaded not guilty to charges of arson of a dwelling, arson of a building, accessory before the fact of arson, and arson with intent to defraud insurance.
A six bedroom home on Spooner Road was destroyed by the July 2013 blaze. The fire has been under investigation for two years.
The home had been empty since 2005 and there was ongoing litigation over whether its construction violated zoning laws.
Steven McCann, 31, was indicted in September 2013, and was charged with arson of a dwelling, arson of a building and destruction of a property valued over $250. McCann has pleaded not guilty.
