Man Dies In Overnight Scituate House Fire
SCITUATE (CBS) -- A man was killed in a fire in his heavily-cluttered house Tuesday night.
Sean Gorman, 42, was taken from his Edith Holmes Road home to South Shore Hospital in Weymouth, where he died despite lifesaving efforts.
The Plymouth County District Attorney's office said Scituate Police and Fire departments responded to a neighbor's call about a fire in the single-story ranch home around 7:44 p.m. Tuesday. They arrived to find the home fully engulfed in flames.
Firefighters were unable to get into the home because of both the fire and a large amount of clutter. They saw Gorman lying in his bed in a rear bedroom of the home, and went through a window in order to make a rescue. He was then transported to South Shore Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 9:38 p.m.
Gorman was living with his mother, but she was not home at the time.
An initial investigation by State Police Detectives assigned to the DA's office and the Office of the State Fire Marshal found the fire not to be suspicious, and no foul play is suspected. The fire remains under investigation.
Firefighters were on scene overnight to put out several flare-ups in the home, which suffered partial roof collapse and heavy damage.
