Elderly Siblings Killed In Early Morning Fire That Charred Saugus Home
SAUGUS (CBS) -- A house fire left two elderly siblings dead in Saugus Saturday morning. The victims, 80-year-old Rose Naples and her brother Lou, were well-known in the neighborhood.
Flames completely charred the front of the home on Richard Street. Neighbors said they heard a loud bang, then saw intense fire coming from the house.
"I heard a loud sound, and I didn't know what happened, and I look outside and see a lot of smoke. And I looked over and see their house is on fire. That's what I ran over here and saw there was a lot of flames," said neighbor Felicia Napolitano.
Within minutes, the house that Naples built 30 years ago was engulfed. Someone got Rose out, and neighbor Annette Imbrescia jumped in to help EMTs.
"So I started doing chest compressions while they got everything prepared, and one of the Saugus firefighters came over," said Imbrescia. "They are wonderful people and they would do anything for you."
Lou Naples made it to the front room of the house, but no further.
Crews from several towns responded to the fire just before 6 a.m. Both victims were taken from the first floor, Saugus Deputy Fire Chief Tom Dion said.
"Very difficult. We're in the business of saving lives and this is not the outcome we want, ever," Dion said.
He said the house will likely have to be demolished. As of Saturday night, the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
