Salvation Army Receives Offers For Donated Diamond Ring
BOSTON (AP) — The Salvation Army says it has received several "generous offers" to purchase a diamond engagement ring and a wedding band that was dropped in a red donation kettle in Boston.
The ring — valued at $1,850 — was accompanied last week by a note from an anonymous donor who said she made the donation in honor of her late husband. She wrote that she hoped the rings would be sold and the proceeds used to buy toys for needy children during the holiday season.
Major David Davis, head of the Massachusetts Salvation Army, said in a statement Wednesday that several people have since stepped forward with offers to buy the rings. He did not elaborate on the offers and said the organization would continue accepting responses through Friday.
