3 Men, 3 Woman Shot While Sitting In A Car In Roxbury

BOSTON (CBS) -- Six people were injured in a shooting Friday night on Maple Street in Roxbury. Police said three men and three women were sitting in a car when they were shot around 11 p.m.

They were all taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The ages of the victims range from mid-20s to mid-30s.

It's unclear how many shots were fired. Police are looking for witnesses and any surveillance footage from the area.

"I heard firecrackers and I didn't know it was gunshots until the police lights," said Frank Allwood, of Roxbury. "The younger generation must think twice and be kind and loving to each other."

Folks that live in the neighborhood say they hoped the violence would slow down this summer. In fact, the city and community put a lot of effort and money in refurbishing Unity Park so kids can feel safe.

"I don't know how you stop it," said Marie Rudolph, of Roxbury. "It seems like there are more guns on the street now than before."

"It's got me topsy-turvy. This neighborhood was nice, but it's got you wondering what's next," Allwood said.

Boston Mayor Marty Walsh tweeted that he shared the community's "outrage" in the shooting.

Police are still investigating. Suffolk County DA Rachel Rollins says the outbursts of violence must stop.

Suffolk County District Attorney Rachael Rollins said, "This is a weekend where we should be celebrating. It is a family weekend and it is tragic that we've had six victims shot."
