Route 1A Closed In Boston After Alleged Drunk Driver Brings Down Wires

BOSTON (CBS/AP) -- A well-traveled route to Logan Airport was shut down Sunday morning after a pickup truck crash brought down a utility pole and high-tension wires.

Both directions of Route 1A from Boardman Street in East Boston to the Revere city line were closed because the truck took down several power lines at about 4 a.m. Pickup truck driver Santiago Gonzalez, of Revere, was arrested and charged with OUI and operating without a license, WBZ NewsRadio 1030's Kim Tunnicliffe reported.

The closure will likely last all day, Boston police said.

A second vehicle could not avoid the wreckage and also struck the truck, police said. No injuries were reported.

Drivers are advised to use Bennington Street to get to the airport from East Boston, and Route 16 west to Route 99 south to get to Boston.
