Route 1 In Saugus Shut Down Briefly By Downed Wires

SAUGUS (CBS) – Both sides of Route 1 in Saugus were shut down temporarily Monday morning because there were wires on the road.

A truck hit a utility pole near Route 99 around 7 a.m., snapping it in half and bringing the wires down. According to Mass. State Police, the road was reopened "relatively quickly because downed wires were cable/telephone."

The truck driver, a 34-year-old man from the Bronx, was taken to Melrose-Wakefield Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Crews are working to repair the utility pole.
