Romney Slams Shaheen As He Endorses Scott Brown

STRATHAM, N.H. (CBS) - Under the blazing sun at a Stratham farm, former Massachusetts senator Scott Brown hoped to turn up the heat in the New Hampshire Senate race, earning the endorsement of former Massachusetts governor and presidential candidate Mitt Romney who promptly slammed Democratic incumbent Jeanne Shaheen.

"She's not an independent thinker when it comes to her votes," said Romney. "She just goes along with whatever the president tells her to do. She's the 'Simon says' Senator.

At an event in Concord, Senator Shaheen held back from any name calling.

"I think there's going to be lots of names thrown around in the campaign," said Shaheen. "My goal is to stay focused on the people of New Hampshire, on what we need to do in Washington."

Like Romney, Brown tried to hammer home to the party faithful that a vote for Shaheen is a vote for the Obama administration.

"The Obama-Shaheen agenda ends right here, right now," said the former Massachusetts Senator.

Brown still needs to defeat two opponents in the Republican primary before any match-up with Shaheen.
