Roche: Red Sox Add Some Rotation Depth In Signing LHP Chris Capuano
FORT MYERS, Fla (CBS) - The Red Sox went looking to add some veteran pitching depth to their rotation after Ryan Dempster announced he won't pitch in 2014. On Thursday, the Sox got their insurance as they signed lefty Chris Capuano to a deal, pending a physical, according to a Sox source.
The 35-year-old, who was born in Springfield, MA and attended Cathedral High School in Springfield, is a nine-year veteran. Capuano has pitched for four major league teams, all in the National League, in Arizona, Milwaukee, the NY Mets, and the Dodgers.

Last season with Los Angeles, Capuano made 20 starts going 4-7 with a 4.26 ERA. He was 1-0 in the postseason after pitching 3 shutout innings of relief against the Braves in the NLDS.
CBSsports.com's Jon Heyman reports that it is a major-league contract that will pay him a guaranteed $2.25 million with incentives that could push the deal to $5 million.
