Robert Kraft Jokes About Darrelle Revis At St. Patrick's Day Breakfast
BOSTON (CBS) -- Patriots fans may not be ready to laugh about losing star cornerback Darrelle Revis yet, but team owner Robert Kraft cracked a few jokes about the situation on Sunday.
Kraft was a guest at the St. Patrick's Day Breakfast in South Boston, where politicians gather every year and do their best to get a chuckle before the parade.
"We've been taking a lot of flack about losing one of our best players, Darrelle Revis, and what happened," Kraft said. "The story isn't known and I'm going to tell the story here."
Revis signed a 5-year $70 million deal with the New York Jets last week. According to Kraft's "story," it wasn't a case of leaving for the highest bidder.
"The money was about the same, he was actually favoring us, coming to us a little cheaper," Kraft said.
The issue, Kraft joked, was about renaming a South Boston landmark.
"But he had one demand and that demand was, you know he protects Revis Island, he wanted to change the name down the street here of Castle Island to Revis Island," Kraft said. "I told him that was non-negotiable and a deal-breaker."
Kraft donned Irish colors for the breakfast, but noted that he's "not comfortable wearing green and white because it reminds me of a certain New York football team."
He also showed off his own "space saver" – the Vince Lombardi trophy.
