7 New England College Students Named Rhodes Scholars

BOSTON (AP) — Seven students from New England universities are among this year's crop of Rhodes scholars.

The 32 recipients of the prestigious scholarship announced Sunday include students at Harvard and MIT in Massachusetts, Yale in Connecticut and Brown in Rhode Island.

Eren Orbey was among three Yale students selected to begin studies next fall at Oxford University in England.

The 23-year-old senior from Acton, Massachusetts plans to complete masters degrees in Global and Imperial History and in World Literatures in English. He hopes his studies "bring heft" to his writing. Orbey is a regular contributor to the New Yorker and is working on a book.

The Rhodes Trust said it selected 21 women, the most ever in a single class. Almost half of the 32 winners are also immigrants or first-generation Americans.
