Rhode Island Man Missing Since Summer Confirmed Dead

WARWICK, R.I. (AP) — A Cranston man who has been missing since August has been declared dead, but the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death remains open.

According to an obituary, Kerry Mello's family has scheduled a memorial service for this weekend.

The 36-year-old Mello, a father of three, was last seen by his girlfriend in Providence on Aug. 10. Boston police found his abandoned car in late October.

Police in Rhode Island and Massachusetts searched for Mello. Several properties in Warwick connected to the same family were searched in the fall.

Rhode Island State Police confirmed Mello's death and the investigation, but did not provide any additional details.
