Revis On Calling Belichick A Jerk: 'It's In The Past'

BOSTON (CBS) -- Just about two years ago, the first word that popped into Darrelle Revis' mind when asked about New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick was "jerk."

Now, Revis is officially a Patriot, as New England announced their long-rumored signing on Monday.

As for that four-letter word he called his new head coach back in 2012  -- and a few other words he through out shortly after -- it's all water under the bridge.

"Me and Bill, we had a conversation about it and it's in the past," Revis told reporters on a conference call Monday afternoon. "We're both moving forward and are excited about working together, trying to win games. That's the biggest goal here, trying to win games."

Revis said 26 teams came calling when he was released by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last Wednesday, and it was a long process to pick which team he'd be roaming the defensive backfield for in 2014. But when it came down to it, the 28-year-old wants to win a Super Bowl, and the Patriots are one of the best options to do just that.

Revis was touring Gillette Stadium on Monday, soaking in all the sights he was used to seeing as a visitor. Last preseason, the Buccaneers held joint practices with the Patriots, giving Revis a glimpse of how the organization operates.

"It was really exciting for me," said Revis. "I was rehabbing my knee, and I got to see how New England really operates and how coach Belichick runs the organization. You can see, even during training camp, they are very disciplined in what they do. They're a veteran team, a playoff-caliber team. I collected those things when I was up there and really paid attention to those scenarios, and really liked them."

"Right now in my career I think it's great to team up with Tom Brady, Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots and help them win games. I'm here to win games and play hard-nosed football," he said, adding that he did speak with Brady on Monday but wouldn't divulge what the conversation was about.

Revis did add that the prospect of playing his former team, the New York Jets, twice a season didn't factor into his decision to join the Patriots.

"My thing is all about winning and I want to win. What better organization than the New England Patriots to be a part of? If you look at their track record New England has won year-in and year-out and has playoff berths," he said. "We felt like New England was the best place. They're a winning organization that we wanted to be a part of."
