Researchers Spot Two New Great White Sharks Off Chatham Coast

CHATHAM (CBS) – As the waters off of Cape Cod continue to warm up, great white shark sightings continue.

On Friday, researchers from the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy spotted two untagged sharks off of Chatham.

Researchers estimate one of the sharks, spotted off the Chatham north cut, was 12 feet long.

The second shark, seen one mile off the north cut, is projected to be about 9 feet long.

Neither of the sharks were tagged on Friday, but researchers did record underwater video of them.

The video has not yet been released.

Last week, the first great white shark of the year was tagged off the coast of Cape Cod. The shark was named Avery.

A total of 18 white sharks were tagged by researchers last summer.
