Report: Providence, RI Teacher Returned To Work After Attleboro Rape Arraignment

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — A Providence teacher returned to his classroom this week after being arraigned in Massachusetts on rape charges.

WJAR-TV reports 37-year-old Chris DeFraga was on the job Thursday morning at the Providence Career & Technical Academy, despite being in court in Attleboro, Massachusetts Wednesday to faces charges that sexually assaulted a former student.

The school district issued a statement later Thursday saying DeFraga was placed on administrative leave as soon as school officials were made aware of the charges. It says DeFraga was hired as a long-term substitute at the school in March.

Fiore Porecca, DeFraga's attorney, says his client denies the charges.

According to court papers, DeFraga told police he began a consensual relationship with the former student at Attleboro High School when was 19-year-old.
