Report: NFL Fines Jets $100,000 For Tampering With Darrelle Revis
BOSTON (CBS) -- The offseason saga between the Jets and the Patriots has been resolved.
According to the New York Daily News' Manish Mehta, the Jets have been fined $100,000 by the NFL for tampering with Darrelle Revis. The Jets will not have any draft picks taken away, and the Patriots will not face any punishment for the Jets' counterfiling of a tampering charge.
The charge stemmed from comments that Jets owner Woody Johnson made about Revis in late December, when Revis was still a member of the Patriots.
"If I thought I could've gotten Darrelle for that [contract], I probably would've taken him," Johnson said. "It was our best judgment to do what we did. Darrelle is a great player. I'd love Darrelle to come back."
Considering Revis was at that time preparing for a playoff run with the Patriots and considering Revis was technically under contract with New England for the 2015 season, the Patriots rejected Johnson's apology and instead filed a tampering charge against the Jets.
The Jets responded in late March by filing a tampering charge of their own against the Patriots for Robert Kraft's comments about Revis at the league meetings in Arizona, which came after Revis had signed with New York.
