Report: Feds To Quiz Whitey Bulger Girlfriend About Mobster's Stash Of Loot
BOSTON (CBS) – Federal authorities are hoping James "Whitey" Bulger's girlfriend will help them find money and other valuables the convicted mobster might have stashed around the world.
The Boston Globe is reporting that investigators plan to call Catherine Greig, 63, before a federal grand jury in Boston in the hope she will talk.
Greig is serving eight years behind bars for helping Bulger evade capture for more than 16 years. A person close to the Bulger and Greig families told the Globe she was transferred this month from a federal prison in Minnesota to a state-run detention center in Central Falls, R.I.
A spokeswoman for the U.S. Attorney's office told the Globe it could not confirm the grand jury investigation or Greig's location.
Bulger, 85, is serving two consecutive life sentences for participating in 11 murders and other crimes. When the FBI captured him in Santa Monica, Calif., three years ago, agents found more than $800,000 hidden in the walls of the apartment he shared with Greig.
Greig has insisted that she does not know of any secret stashes by Bulger.
