Report: Canadiens Front Office 'Fuming' At Perceived Lucic Spear On Emelin
BOSTON (CBS) -- The Montreal Canadiens are angry with Milan Lucic. Again.
The bruising Bruins winger who crossed the line in March with a stick to the groin of Alexei Emelin is being accused of once again of assaulting the Montreal defenseman.
According to Sportsnet's Chris Johnston, certain members of the Montreal front office are "fuming" at what they perceive to have been another spear by Lucic on Emelin.
The accusations, despite being eaten up by many who wanted to believe Lucic was back to his old ways, proved to be almost completely baseless once video of the "incident" made the rounds online.
NBC Sports posted the video, which shows it was really a nothing play.
Lucic certainly slashed Emelin in the midsection, but it was the type of stickwork that takes place on nearly every puck battle in the postseason. Lucic was certainly wrong to use his stick to check if Emelin was wearing a protective cup in March, and he was wrong again to pull nearly the same move on Danny DeKeyser in the opening round of the playoffs. But this? This was nothing.
The NHL isn't investigating the hit, because frankly, there's nothing to investigate -- aside from a Canadiens front office on overly high alert for any sort of misbehavior from Milan Lucic.
