Report: Alfonzo Dennard Released From Jail
BOSTON (CBS) -- Alfonzo Dennard is once again a free man.
According to ESPN's Field Yates, the Patriots cornerback was released from an adult detention center in Lancaster County, Nebraska after serving 35 out of a possible 60 days for violating his probation.
The initial arrest came just days before the 2012 NFL draft. Dennard punched a law enforcement officer outside of a Lincoln, Nebraska bar and was convicted of felony assault.
The former Cornhusker was arrested again in July 2013 on suspicion of driving under the influence, resulting in a probation violation.
The judge extended his probation to three years and doubled the jail time after the DUI arrest. That charge was later dismissed in exchange for Dennard's no contest plea for refusing to submit to a chemical test. He was fined $500 and placed on probation for that offense.
Dennard, 24, figures to be a central part of the Patriots secondary, a unit that has vastly improved since last season with the signings of Darrelle Revis and Brandon Browner.
Dennard finished 2013, his second in the NFL, with 40 tackles (34 solo, 6 assists) and one interception.
