Reiss On Sports Final: 'All Signs Are Positive' For Rob Gronkowski
BOSTON (CBS) -- Organized team activities and mandatory mini-camp is out of the way, and training camp is right around the corner for the New England Patriots.
The quest for another Super Bowl will officially get underway July 24 at Gillette Stadium, and one player everyone will have their eyes on is tight end Rob Gronkowski. It's been another summer of recovery for Gronk after going down in Week 14 last year with a horrific ACL injury, but unlike last summer, there have been no setbacks or multiple surgeries for the All Pro tight end.
And there's even a chance he's ready for the start of the regular season.
Mike Reiss of ESPNBoston.com joined Dan Roche on WBZ-TV's Sports Final on Sunday night, and said everything is looking good for Gronkowski this summer.
"This is the time when you have the break between the spring camps and training camp; a five-week period where players head back home for that last chance to be with their families. But Rob Gronkowski stuck around last week and reported to Gillette Stadium, rehabbing that torn ACL," said Reiss. "All signs are positive, and Gronkowski has said that. All spring he's said things are going well and this is different from last year when he was suffering setback after setback after setback."
We likely won't know until after camp if Gronk will be good to go when the Patriots open up the regular season on September 7 in Miami, but Reiss said at least this season, it's a possibility.
"What this does is it puts him in a position to be ready for the season opener," he said. "They don't know if he'll definitely be ready, but all signs are positive."
Reiss also touched on New England's defensive line and Tom Brady's receiving corps. Watch the full clip from Sunday night's Sports Final above, and tune in to Sports Final and Sports Final OT every Sunday night on WBZ-TV at 11:35 p.m.!
