Redevelopment Of South Weymouth Naval Air Station Moves Forward
WEYMOUTH (CBS) -- The redevelopment of the old South Weymouth Naval Air Station is moving forward under a new management company.
The area known as SouthField is still largely empty. But changes are happening, according to LStar President Kyle Corkum, whose company now owns the currently "very unattractive" development.
"Our specialty is turning around big complex communities like SouthField," he told WBZ NewsRadio 1030. "We love taking on challenges like this."
LStar already broke ground for a senior housing neighborhood this week.
Corkum says the goal is to remove the remaining Navy buildings, create a commercial center and set aside about 50 miles of parks and trails.
There's no word on the price tag of this deal.
