Red Sox Scheduled To Visit White House On Tuesday, April 1

BOSTON (CBS) -- The Boston Red Sox will begin defending their World Series title on Monday in Baltimore, but on Tuesday they'll be honored one last time for the amazing worst-to-first turnaround.

With next Tuesday being a scheduled off-day, the Red Sox will make their honorary visit to the White House and visit with President Barack Obama.

The event is scheduled for 11:15 am, and the team is also planning to visit wounded soldiers at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center while in Washington, D.C..

This will be Boston's third visit to the White House in the last 10 years, but the first hosted by President Obama. George W. Bush was in office when the Red Sox were invited to the White House following their World Series titles in 2004 and 2007.

The Red Sox open the season with a three-game series against the Orioles in Baltimore before returning home for the Fenway Park opener on April 4.
