Rare Pygmy Hippo Makes Franklin Park Zoo Debut

BOSTON (CBS) - A rare pygmy hippo made his public debut at Franklin Park Zoo on Wednesday morning.

Inocencio, the 2-year-old pygmy hippopotamus, arrived at Franklin Park Zoo from Chile back in December.

This particular species of hippo is endangered, so the zoo hopes to breed Inocencio with their female pygmy hippo, Cleopatra. In North America, there are only about 61 pygmy hippos remaining.

The new member of Franklin Park Zoo currently weighs in at 293 pounds; he is expected to double his weight as he grows up.

Inocencio lives in the Tropical Forest section of the zoo.
