Bag With $40K Inside Missing After Quincy Home Invasion
QUINCY (CBS) -- New details about a home invasion in Quincy emerged as one of the men charged in the attack was arraigned in court Wednesday.
Kevin Murphy, 22, of Revere, faces several charges including assault and battery and kidnapping. Police said Murphy and another man who they are still looking for broke into a pregnant woman's bedroom Tuesday afternoon, held a gun to her head, and demanded money.
The woman then allegedly pointed the men toward a bag containing $40,000, which they took. That money has yet to be recovered.
The woman's husband, Allen Eng, said that he had such a large amount of money in the house because he owns Kozy Desserts bakery in Quincy Center.
While the intruders tied up the woman, who is six months pregnant, her 16-year-old daughter ran upstairs, hid in a closet, and called police.
When officers arrived, Murphy saw them and fled, leading them on a brief chase. Police say he dropped a gun while they were chasing him.
Murphy's defense attorney asked that he stand behind a stairwell in court, due to his having been identified by his clothing rather than his face. The judge denied this request.
Murphy was held on $100,000 bail, and is expected to return to court January 5. Police are still looking for the second suspect.
