Quincy Food Pantry Seeks Halloween Costumes For Kids In Need

QUINCY (CBS) -- It's not even October yet, but if you're a kid, it's never too early to think about a Halloween costume.

For some families struggling to put food on the table, however, a costume is an added expense they just can't cover.

That's where a Quincy food pantry comes in. On the bottom floor of Interfaith Social Services on Tuesday, volunteers from Arbella Insurance were going through bags of donated costumes, sorting out princesses from the storm troopers.

"We all love it, it feels good to help people in the community," a volunteer named Barbara said.

The volunteers are creating a mini Halloween costume mall for kids who would not otherwise be able to afford a costume.

Executive Director Rick Doane says that for a kid, picking out a costume is a big deal.

"Last year there was a little boy who came in and said, 'I'm looking for a Sonic The Hedgehog costume,'" Doane recalled. "And he found it and he was so, so excited."
