Air Quality Alert: Smoke from Canadian wildfires drifts across New England
BOSTON - Smoke from wildfires in Canada will continue to drape across southern New England Wednesday.
The wildfires burning in Ontario and Quebec will continue to drain particles into the northeast from the northwest winds. This smoke will be closer to the surface (rather than previous smoke events that were held higher in the atmosphere) and brings a smoky scent and Air Quality Alert through midnight for most of New England .
There will likely be some improvement later in the day as a trough passes the region. That will also bring a few showers which will hopefully wash some of the aerosols away.
Anyone with sensitivity to air quality or breathing related issues should take this into consideration.
The weak fronts that slide through the area over the next few days should alleviate some of this concern. That said, Tuesday's front did little to disperse the smoke so we'll keep a close eye on the continuation of this plume after this wave passes through Wednesday.
