Thousands Lose Electricity At Height Of Snowstorm

BOSTON (CBS) – Thousands of customers had no electricity Tuesday afternoon, according to the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency, as the snowstorm pushed across southern New England.

There was a huge jump in the number of outages around noon-time, most of them in Worcester and Plymouth.  Medford had several thousand later in the day.

WBZ NewsRadio 1030's Bernice Corpuz reported that outages in the Medford, Malden, and Everett area were partially due to the failure of an overhead cable line.

The total combined outages for National Grid and Eversource customers peaked at approximately 72,000. As of 9:15 p.m., approximately 40,000 customers were still without power.

According to SKYWARN, the damage reports ramped up as wind gusts around 60 miles per hour brought down power lines in several towns.

If you lost power, call your utility company immediately.  If you see power lines down, do not go near them, because they could still be live.  In those cases, call 911 immediately.
