Police Seek Man Seen On Video Throwing Punch Outside NH Diner
PORTSMOUTH, N.H. (CBS) – New Hampshire police are looking for the public's help finding a man seen on video punching another man in the face outside of a popular diner.
The incident took place on June 20 around 1:45 a.m. outside Gilley's PM Lunch.
What led up to the attack is a mystery.
"That's unclear to us at this point what caused the fight, and that's why we're looking for the public's help," Portsmouth Police Sgt. Chris Kiberd said.
Video shows the man in a white t-shirt, dark pants, and baseball hat on backwards -- suddenly launching a sucker punch to the head of the man in front of him and following it up with another hay-maker.
Because Gilley's is open until 2:00 a.m. people flock there when the bars shut down at 1:30 a.m. so there was a pretty big crowd on hand when the man was attacked.
The Gilley's surveillance video seems to show a brief exchange between the pair. But it's another 30 seconds or so before the punches come and the suspect seems bent on more even as patrons try to intervene and a woman attempts to discourage him with her handbag.
The man who got his face bloodied told police he did not recognize the attacker as anyone he'd encountered earlier on that night of June 20th.
"The victim did not relay any information to us as to why he was attacked," Sgt. Kiberd said.
Police say the suspect is about 6 feet tall and has a black goatee.
Anyone with information is asked to call Portsmouth Police at (603) 610-7505.
Tips can also be made to Crime Stoppers at (603) 431-1199.
