Police Arrest Alleged Kidnapper Of Worcester Baby And Mother

WORCESTER (CBS) – Police on Sunday arrested a 22-year-old Worcester man after he allegedly kidnapped his baby and her mother.

Jesus Rodriguez is facing the following charges: home invasion, two counts of kidnapping, possession of a firearm without an FID card, possession of ammunition with an FID card, child endangerment, violation of a restraining order, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (gun) and threatening to commit a crime (murder).

Rodriguez allegedly entered the mother's apartment at around 1:45 p.m. and pistol whipped a family member with a handgun, according to Worcester Police. He then pointed the weapon at another woman in the dwelling and forced the 19-year-old mother and 11-month baby out of the unit and into a livery cab. The cab left the scene, police said.

Around 20 minutes later, police, after contacting the cab company, located the car driving through Palmer and heading towards Springfield. State Police, after alerting area officers to the vehicle, stopped the car travelling westbound on the Massachusetts Turnpike in Ludlow.

The baby and mother were found unharmed. Police also recovered a loaded gun from the car.

Rodriguez was booked at the Worcester Police headquarters and his car was towed. The mother declined medical attention for herself and the baby.

The person pistol whipped was taken to a hospital for treatment of his head lacerations.
