Boston Police officer shot multiple times in Roxbury

BOSTON - A Boston Police officer was shot multiple times after he came upon a "robbery in progress" in Roxbury Friday night. The shooting happened at about 9:15 p.m. at 44 Cedric Street.

"The officer approached the suspect who was armed with a firearm and he was fired upon several times, being struck multiple times," Boston Police Commissioner Michael Cox said.

The officer was rushed to Boston Medical Center in a police cruiser with non-life-threatening injuries. Cox said the officer is in stable condition.

The suspect, who was not identified, was taken into custody. Two other officers were injured during the incident, but were not shot.

"Thank goodness an officer who was struck multiple times is still with us," Cox said. "This just goes to show the difficult work that our officers deal with daily."

The Boston Police Patrolmen's Association asked for prayers for the wounded officer. "Thankfully, injuries appear to be non-life threatening," the BPPA tweeted. "But, to be clear, it is NEVER okay to hurt, harm or shoot a police officer."
