Man killed in police shooting in Manchester, New Hampshire; K9 injured
MANCHESTER, N.H. - A police officer shot and killed a man Friday morning in Manchester, New Hampshire, according to the Attorney General's Office.
It happened in the area of Pine and Plummer streets. Manchester Police said officers were patrolling the area looking for a suspect, identified as 34-year-old Jake Chiaradonna, who was wanted in a robbery. Police said they found him hiding inside a stolen car. When he allegedly refused to get out, police deployed their K9 and Chiaradonna allegedly stabbed the K9, Duke, with a screwdriver.
Police said Chiarradonna fled on foot and assaulted Duke again. An officer then shot Chiarradonna. He was taken to the hospital, where he died several hours later.
Duke was taken to a veterinarian, where he was treated and released. No other officers were hurt and there is no threat to the public.
The attorney general and police have not identified the officer who shot Chiarradonna.
