Police: NH Couple Lied In Bridgewater Burned Body Investigation

BRIDGEWATER (AP) — A New Hampshire couple has been charged with misleading investigators looking into a woman's body found burning near rail tracks in Bridgewater earlier this month.

Julian Squires and his wife, Shannon, both of Manchester, were arraigned Monday in Brockton District Court, according to Plymouth District Attorney Timothy Cruz.

Julian Squires, 40, was held on $100,000 bail. Shannon Squires, 39, was held on $20,000 bail. Both were ordered to surrender their passports. Their next court appearance is Dec. 23.

Cruz says the couple was arrested late Friday after admitting being with the victim earlier on Nov. 3, but then lying about their whereabouts later that day.

The victim, 29-year-old Ashley Bortner of New Jersey, was found in a burning car with her hands tied behind her back and to her feet.
