Police Looking For New Leads In Saugus Hit And Run
SAUGUS (CBS) - Someone out there knows who killed Kathleen O'Neil. Now three years after the 41-year-old was hit by a vehicle and thrown onto a median in the road, Saugus police are trying to drum up new leads. "Any observations of any operation of motor vehicles that were odd, or reckless, it might lead us to who may be involved," said Lt. Ronald Giorgetti.
He says it happened sometime between midnight and 1:15am June 19th. It was Father's Day of 2011. O'Neil's sister says she'd been walking to get cat food for her pet. She says a seizure disorder prevented her from driving. She was about a mile from her home in Lynn when she was hit.
"She was just a good person and she didn't deserve to die like that. She didn't deserve to be left like a piece of garbage in the median strip," says her sister Mary Theo.
Police say a couple driving by spotted her body, called 911, and circled back to confirm. At that point they saw a black Nissan crashed on the side of the road. Police say they spoke with the people in that car, and do not believe they have anything to do with the hit and run. They are bringing it up now though, hoping to jog memories about what the scene looked like on Route 107 that night, the Salem Turnpike in Saugus between Revere and Lynn.
"I don't have complete peace because I don't have closure and it haunts me," says Theo.
