7-Year-Old Boy Shot In Dorchester While Riding Bike
DORCHESTER (CBS) -- A 7-year-old boy was shot in Dorchester Sunday afternoon, according to Boston Police.
Police say 7-year-old Divan Silva, of Brockton, was riding his bike on the sidewalk when he was struck by a bullet in the buttocks. He was rushed to the hospital and is expected to be OK.
"We heard his mom scream and he was on the ground," one witness told WBZ-TV.
Silva was visiting his grandmother for Memorial Day weekend.
"He's happy, he just wanted to be out there playing," Silva's uncle Erico Federico said.
A 20-year-old man was also grazed in the head and is expected to be OK.
The incident occurred near a barber shop on Bowdoin Street. People who live near the shooting are outraged.
"I'm getting mad, I'm frustrated. Stop shooting little kids," one neighbor said.
"If anyone out there is listening, this should not be tolerated," Boston Police Supt. William Gross said. "You owe no allegiance to anybody that would fire a gun brazenly in the streets and hit a 7-year-old child."
The incident is under investigation. Police describe the shooter as 14 to 18-year-old light-skinned male, about 5 feet, 10 inches tall and wearing a red hoodie and tan pants. Police say the suspect may have fled in a newer model white 4-door sedan after the shooting.
