Plus/Minus: Lucic Helps Lead Bruins To Second Straight Win

BOSTON (CBS) - The Boston Bruins made it two in a row on Thursday night, blanking the New Jersey Devils 3-0 at the TD Garden.

While they needed overtime to get an extra point against the Pittsburgh Penguins on Wednesday, the Bruins easily handled the Devils last night. They opened with a flurry, taking 18 shots in the game's first frame, with Milan Lucic scoring the only goal they'd need on the power play late in the first period. Carl Soderberg added some insurance in the second period, and Lucic capped off a two-goal night with an empty-netter just before the final whistle.

98.5 The Sports Hub's Adam Jones broke it all down following the game with Plus/Minus:

Plus

Milan Lucic

Scored two goals in the win with his first coming on the power play. Lucic finished the night with three shots and three hits, and has been much more engaged over the last few games.

Patrice Bergeron/Chris Kelly

They combined for four shots and won 11 of their 15 faceoffs. Both were also honored for playing in their 700th career game.

Carl Soderberg

His ninth goal of the season gave Boston a two-goal lead in the second period. The Swede has a team-high six shots and won 8 of his 12 faceoffs.

Minus

5-on-3 Power Play

Boston had a two-man advantage early in the contest, and got off four shots, but didn't look comfortable and couldn't capitalize.

Jordan Caron

His play on the ice was fine, but took a fight with Jordin Tootoo just one minute after the Bruins took a two-goal lead with New Jersey looking to get some momentum on their side.

Loui Eriksson

The forward missed the game with a hand injury. Bruins didn't miss him, but Boston will want him back sooner rather than later.

Jones also caught up with Dave Goucher and Bob Beers of the Bruins Radio Network after the game, who were both very pleased with Boston's 60-minute effort on Thursday.

"On the heels of what Charlie Jacobs said the other day, it's not like the Bruins came out gangbusters last night [in Pittsburgh]. But they managed to stay with it and get two points out of that game. [Against New Jersey] was much different; it felt like they had control throughout," said Goucher.

"Tonight was more of a team effort. It was the commitment to all three zones," said Beers. "I want to give the Bruins full marks because they haven't had many games like this, but New Jersey wasn't good today. But from a Bruins side of it, they've taken a lot of criticism and rightfully so, but it was a good game in all three zones. They didn't give the Devils a lot of room to breathe, and as soon as they moved the pick they had somebody in their face. It was all three zones."
