Plus/Minus: Bruins Earn Much-Needed Point In 3-2 OT Pittsburgh Loss

BOSTON (CBS) - The Bruins hosted the Pittsburgh Penguins Monday night and lost in overtime by the final tally of 3-2.

They were able to escape with a point, so it wasn't all negative coming out of TD Garden. However, two disallowed goals really cost the B's a chance to grab hold of the game.

Following the loss, 98.5 The Sports Hub's Adam Jones broke it all down with Dave Goucher and Bob Beers of the Bruins Radio Network.

After chatting with Dave Goucher and Bob Beers, Adam Jones looks at the standouts and stragglers in the Bruins 3-2 loss to the Penguins in a segment he calls "Plus/Minus."

Plus

Bruins First Goal

"The Bruins started out in a hole just under four minutes into the game, and then in the second period the B's struck early with a beautiful goal on a newly put together line of Milan Lucic, Carl Soderberg and Loui Eriksson. Soderberg carried the puck into the offensive zone, feeds Eriksson with a backhanded pass, who slides it across the crease to Milan Lucic who slams it home. It was Milan Lucic's fourth goal of the season; he mixed in three shots and three hits in about 18 minutes of ice time."

Joe Morrow

"Less than 30 seconds later from that first goal, a man drafted by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the first round in 2011, Joe Morrow struck from the left point for his first career NHL goal."

David Pastrnak

"He made his NHL debut tonight. Just 7:53 of ice time, but he got some time on the power play and he got some looks on a line with Patrice Bergeron and Reilly Smith at one point. You can see the offensive skill. Still some things he needs to work on, but he's a first round pick with some skill that made his presence felt in his debut."

Minus

Penguins First Goal

"Sidney Crosby got Pittsburgh on the board at the 3:33 mark in the first period. The goal came on a defensive pairing of Dennis Seidenberg and Torey Krug. Nobody was home for the rebound off Tuukka Rask, and Crosby slammed it home with the backhand."

Malkin's First Goal

"Malkin's first goal came when Patrice Bergeron was in the penalty box for hooking. Malkin hammered it home from the left circle on the Penguins dangerous power play. It was the first time he's beaten Tuukka Rask, but it wouldn't be the last on the evening."

Malkin's Second Goal

"In overtime after the Bruins were able to pick up the point and force that extra five minute session, we had an offensive zone turnover from Reilly Smith and Brad Marchand, which led Sidney Crosby flying up the ice on a full head of steam. Crosby threaded the needle perfectly to Malkin who was waiting in the right circle, who nailed the game winner on a one-timer."
