Pierce Middle School in Milton put on lockdown after bullets found in bathrooms

MILTON -- Pierce Middle School in Milton went into lockdown on Friday after bullets were found in three separate bathrooms.

The first bullet, which was a live 9mm bullet, was found shortly after 10 a.m. by a teacher in the sink of a second floor bathroom.

After Milton Police were notified of the live bullet, the school went into lockdown, and Boston Police and Quincy Police were called to help assist in a sweep of the school. During the investigation, more bullets were found in two separate bathrooms.

"It's an act committed to disrupt the day because they were in plain sight where someone was going to see them. the anxiety is very real," said Superintendent of Milton Public Schools James Jette. "I want to reassure parents out policies and procedures were in place to keep their children safe. It was a huge inconvenience with the anxiety that was there. But I'm happy it culminated in no one injured and everyone going home to their loved ones."

After the sweep was over, the lockdown transitioned to a stay-in-place and lunches were delivered to students, who were able to move about in their classrooms.

"It's nerve-wracking because you don't know what's going on in the building. With what just happened in Texas, it'sscary," said parent Mike Docanto.

Seventh grader Timmy McDevitt said the whole experience was startling.

"They put tables by the door to protect it. It was scary that they had to do that much."

After the tension-filled day, students emerged from the school around 2 p.m.
