Photos Of Winchester Man Wanted In Mother's Death Released
WINCHESTER (CBS) – Authorities have released photos of a wanted Winchester man after his mother was found dead Tuesday.
Barbara McAveeney was found dead at the Parkview Condominium building on Swanton Street in Winchester. Police have issued an arrest warrant for 46-year-old Matthew McAveeney, who is wanted for armed assault with intent to murder and other charges, including two counts of cruelty to animals.
Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan released two photographs of McAveeney from a bank's ATM security camera.
"These photos from a few days ago are the most current we have found so far of Matthew McAveeney," District Attorney Ryan said Wednesday.
"We are asking for the public's assistance if anyone sees him, or knows of his whereabouts, to please contact the nearest police department or Massachusetts State Police detectives."
A wellness check led police to make the discovery Tuesday morning. Residents who live near McAveeney's first floor unit said there was a foul smell.
They saw officers going through the building's trash and recycle bins looking for clues.
Residents said the woman lived in the building about 37 years, but she was usually only seen when riding her motorized scooter to get the mail.
Anyone with information as to the whereabouts of Matthew McAveeney is asked to contact the Winchester Police at 781-729-1212 or the Massachusetts State Police at 508-820-2121
