Speeding SUV Caught On Video Slamming Into N.H. Home
BOSTON (CBS) – Five residents have been forced from their New Hampshire home after an SUV slammed into it, leaving significant damage.
Pelham Police said a Tyngsboro man was driving north on Mammoth Road when his SUV crossed over the center line and eventually slammed into a home.
The impact left a hole in the side of the building.
Surveillance video from a nearby convenience store captured the crash.
The impact was so strong it actually shifted the building's foundation.
"Probably about half of the engine was into the living room of the residence," said Pelham Police Lt. Anne Perriello. "Just at that moment, the three people out of the five who were home at the time were actually all upstairs."
The Tyngsboro man who was driving the SUV suffered broken bones in his leg and was taken to the hospital; his dog, who was riding in the backseat was not hurt.
Police say the surveillance video is a lifesaving lesson for everyone - no matter how you get around.
"He was driving a Toyota 4Runner, that's a four wheel drive vehicle," said Lt. Perriello. "It doesn't matter what type of vehicle you're in, you have to watch your speed. That's what counts."
The residents who were displaced are being assisted by the Red Cross.
Preliminary investigation shows speed and road conditions contributed to the crash.
