Patriots Waive Cornerback Rashaan Melvin

BOSTON (CBS) -- Cornerback Rashaan Melvin had a chance to be a special teams hero after a disastrous day for the Patriots' unit against the Philadelphia Eagles, recovering an onside kick in the middle of the fourth quarter to give the Patriots a chance to come within a touchdown, which they did. The Patriots announced late Tuesday that they had waived Melvin, likely bringing a permanent end to his brief tenure in New England. The Patriots signed Melvin off waivers in October and the corner played eight games, mainly on special teams.

The Patriots also announced that they cut tight end Joseph Fauria from the practice squad, leaving the roster spot open as of this writing, according to Pro Football Talk.
