Kraft: 'We're Going To Have Some Fun Next Year'
BOSTON (CBS) -- With the New England Patriots spectators for Super Bowl 50, owner Robert Kraft almost didn't make the trip out to San Francisco for all the festivities leading up to the game.
"I feel the way all our fans feels. I was ambivalent towards coming out here," Kraft told WBZ-TV's Steve Burton on Friday.
It's been a tough few weeks for Kraft after the Patriots fell to the Denver Broncos in the AFC Championship Game. But he's out in San Francisco to support former players of the game, attending the Super Bowl Hall of Fame Luncheon on Friday afternoon. Events like that are helping him deal with the agony of defeat.
And while his team won't be playing on Sunday, he's still proud of what they were able to accomplish in 2015.
"What they went through this year, all the distractions. We had our share of physical injuries, but then I step back and think that this team has gone to five straight conference championship games. That's a great tribute to the coaches and players," said Kraft. "We still have a pretty good team and there are a lot of young players on the team. We're blessed with the best coaching staff in the NFL.
"We're going to have some fun next year, I promise," Kraft said to the New England fans.
Kraft is also pleased Patriots quarterback Tom Brady will be in attendance Sunday, as the NFL honors past MVPs of the Super Bowl. Some questioned if Brady would attend after battling the NFL in the DeflateGate saga, but Kraft said true to form, the three-time Super Bowl MVP will be there representing the New England organization.
"I chatted with him about it and he was his usual selfless self, saying he represents all of the players on the team, the coaches and the New England market," said Kraft. "Without that sense of team, he wouldn't have gotten those MVP awards."
