Julian Edelman Named AFC Special Teams Player Of The Week

BOSTON (CBS) -- For the second time in his career, Julian Edelman has been named the AFC Special Teams Player of the Week.

Edelman brought home the award following his performance in the Patriots' 43-21 victory over the Denver Broncos last Sunday, when he returned a second quarter punt 84 yards for a touchdown. He now owns the franchise-record with four punt returns for touchdowns.

For his career, Edelman has returned 125 punts for 1,568 yards and is first in team history and fourth in NFL history with a 12.5 average. He first won AFC Special Teams Player of the Week honors in Week 11 of the 2011 season, when he returned a punt 72 yards for a touchdown in a win over the Kansas City Chiefs.

This marks the third AFC Player of the Week award for the Patriots in 2014. Chandler Jones was named AFC Defensive Player of the Week for his performance New England's win at Minnesota on September 14, and defensive lineman Chris Jones was named AFC Special Teams Player of the Week for his performance in the win over the New York Jets on October 16.

Quarterback Tom Brady also brought home some hardware when he was named AFC Offensive Player of the Month for October.
