Julian Edelman Practices In Full Pads

BOSTON (CBS) -- Julian Edelman was back on the practice field for the Patriots on Wednesday, and this time the receiver was in full pads.

Edelman, who suffered a Jones fracture in his left foot during New England's Week 10 win over the Giants, returned to practice last Friday. But on Wednesday, he was much more active on the field as he participated in some team drills and his first padded practice since the injury.

The receiver isn't expected to return until after the regular season, but it's good to see him out there, testing his surgically repaired foot. Edelman was leading the Patriots with 61 receptions at the time of the injury, and had a career-high seven touchdowns in the nine games he played in.

Edelman was one of eight players to be limited at Wednesday's practice, along with tight end Scott Chandler (knee), linebacker Dont'a Hightower (knee), offensive lineman Josh Kline (shoulder), receiver Danny Amendola (knee), safety Patrick Chung (toe), cornerback Justin Coleman (hand) and special teams captain Matthew Slater (stinger).

Three players say out Wednesday's practice: Safety Devin McCourty (ankle), linebacker Jonathan Freeney (hand) and running back LeGarrette Blount (hip). All three suffered injuries in Sunday night's win over the Houston Texans, and reports say Blount will soon find himself on the IR.

Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski (knee), who returned Sunday after missing a game, and defensive end Chandler Jones (abdomen) were both full participants in Wednesday's practice.
