Patriots, First Responders Help Celebrate Foxboro Boy's Birthday
FOXBORO (CBS) – The entire New England Patriots team, along with first responders from all over the area helped Danny Nickerson celebrate his sixth birthday on Saturday.
Nickerson, who has a rare inoperable brain tumor, made headlines recently after telling his mom he wanted birthday cards. She put out a public plea, and people around the world responded.
In the past three days, more than 150,000 letters and packages have swamped the Foxboro Post Office.
"Letters from Japan, Sweden, Italy; a package from Iran, from everywhere," his dad Daniel Jamieson said.
On Saturday, following a session of Patriots training camp, the entire team sang Happy Birthday to the six-year-old. His party at Gillette Stadium also included fire trucks and police cars from around the state.
Burlington police Sgt. Gerard McDonough organized the party. He says the goal is making sure kids like Danny are able to get through some of the tougher days of treatment.
"That's mission accomplished for us. That's our goal," he said.
