Revis: 'Kind Of Sad' For Rex Ryan

BOSTON (CBS) -- For New England Patriots fans, looking at the AFC standings and seeing the New York Jets sitting at 3-11 probably brings a smile to their face.

But for Darrelle Revis, who spent four of his six years in New York under current head coach Rex Ryan, he's a little sympathetic. While he's focused on going up against his former team on Sunday, Revis also said the situation Ryan finds himself in is "kind of sad."

"They have a lot on their plate over there in that situation this year. It's kind of sad for the position that Rex is in right now," the Patriots corner told reporters on a conference call on Wednesday. "But at the same time [the record is] something that they've got to change."

There have been rumors swirling all year that Ryan will be let go at the end of the season, as the Jets will miss the postseason for the fourth straight year.

"Me and Rex have a lot of history and we all know that," added Revis. "Some of those guys are dear to my heart and everything, but like I said, I've got to focus on the things that I am doing here and I wish Rex the best."

As for the difference between a Rex Ryan defense and a Bill Belichick defense, Revis said they are tough to compare.

"It's two different schemes. Rex is more aggressive with his approach and up here it's a mixture of man coverage and zone too," he explained. "So it's just two different systems that I've played with, two different cultures that have two different styles of defenses."

Revis doesn't know what to expect when he returns to the Meadowlands on Sunday for the first time in a New England uniform, and when asked if that was the uniform he'd be wearing next season, he was quick to say his focus is squarely on the week ahead.

He was also asked several times if there would be a reunion with Ryan in the future, to which Revis gave the same "focused on this week" answer.

As for if the Jets could have used him this season, Revis didn't want to touch that.

"I'm over here. That ship has sailed," he said. "I missed that boat. I caught the New England Patriots boat."
